I had the good fortune to be in New York in October and visited the NY Botanical garden where an exhibition called KIKU was on. It transpires that Kiku is Japanese for chrysanthemum, (you live and learn!). It’s not one of my favourites but I have to say the exhibits were mind blowing when you consider that the ones illustrated were all on ONE stem! The dome-shaped exhibit was one main stem with all the flower ‘arms’ trained to create the final effect. Similarly, the cascades are each on one stem and once the length of the ‘flower arms’ is achieved it then takes 10 months for the buds to be created and open. Quite astonishing… I quite admire chrysanthemums now!
