In June we had a visit at or monthly meeting from Neil Miller, Head Gardener at Hever Castle. It was a fascinating presentation and it inspired Claire to go and visit. This is what she said:
Following the June talk from the Head Gardener at Hever we decided to visit for the first time in about 15 years. We went on 3rd June, the first Monday of Rose Week and were delighted to discover Hever is in the 2 for 1 Gardeners’ World magazine scheme. (We went to Eden Project on this card this year too, so with a couple of other gardens we’ve saved over £40 so far!).
Hever was delightfully not too busy and was glorious in the sun. It was easy to see why Neil named the Rose Garden as his favourite spot, but ours was the hidden Italian Garden, as bypassed by almost everyone else, we had it to ourselves for a picnic in grand solitude. We loved the contrast of architecture and planting and enjoyed being the oldest children in the water maze. Newly revamped Church Ghyll was a joy and the recently updated Anne Boleyn exhibition in the Castle was informative and not too long. For Rose Week the Castle had been decorated with many splendid flower arrangements to suit each room – indoor photography not allowed unfortunately but I hope you enjoy these outside pictures.
