The WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) is a national charity offering lifelong learning opportunities. We were wondering if any members of your horticultural society might be interested in volunteering with a group of adults with learning difficulties attending one of our local Gardening courses. We are currently looking for volunteers to work with adults with additional needs attending WEA courses in a horticultural environment, so may suit keen gardeners. It is based in Merstham.
There are four classes per week on : Tuesday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10.30am – 2.30 pm. The courses run for 2 hours each on Tuesdays or 4 hours per session on a Wednesday and Thursday in terms of ten weeks. Volunteers might be interested in assisting at one or more sessions.
Duties include completing enrolment information for the students and general support of the Gardening Tutor in the resource centre or in the garden or polytunnel. Activities include sowing seeds, potting up, general garden maintenance and harvesting the produce.
As this course is for learners with additional needs all volunteers will need to be DBS checked.
