Happy New Year to you all and hope you had a good Christmas.
We had our AGM at the beginning of December with the AGM over in double quick time so we could get on with the serious side of the evening, food and alcohol!
Must thank Val Kimber for organising us and big thanks to all members who brought in such super food. Claire Purkis, our Treasurer had organised a horticultural/current affairs quiz and the Chairman “hummed” a few songs for us to guess the horticultural subject in the song – great fun.
We had our normal January get together to have a good gossip – so much to catch up on – accompanied by tea with cake made by Val Kimber. We also had the famous “free” raffle and some of us brought along prizes which we didn’t want/need. Much hilarity ensued especially getting down to the last six prizes – if your number came up you had to take a prize. I think the charity shops would have done very well out of us!
Our first ‘normal’ meeting of the year – whatever that is for the gardeners – takes place on Wednesday 4th February when John Negus will be speaking on “Gardening with Flair”. Usual place – White Hart Barn, 7.30 for 8.00p.m. £2 each for visitors so why not give us a go. Come to think of it, splash out £10 and become a member for which you get 10 speakers a year plus a couple of shows and the chance to go on Jean’s Jolly Jaunts – how’s that for fantastic value.
Following our recent appeal, Richard Clarke has offered to be Secretary – thank you – and his email address is richard@millenniumhouse.com. Also on the Show Secretary front, Alex Rabbetts is going to be in charge with assistance from members. I am so grateful that these two have volunteered, as no club can run without officers. Our Show by the way is on the 12th September and later on we shall be putting the Schedule on this website.
We are looking forward to another exciting year – come and see what we are all about.
