Not being ones to gloat, but we won! Teddy, (the trophy for the Annual Spring Challenge against Hurst Green), has returned to Godstone. Now normally, we wouldn’t rush to get something onto the website on the very night that the challenge takes place but, since it has been rather a while since we won. We’ve had a bit of a bad run of things, bit tonight all that changed. Hosted by our good friends at Hurst Green Gardening Club, a great show was put on by all.
It has been a difficult year for the Spring Challenge – the mild weather that we have had and the lack of frosts has meant that many daffodils have already flourished and are over. Tulips too have been up, given a good show, and are already over in some cases. In fact, there was some concern at one point that we would be showing gladioli rather than daffodils and tulips! That all said, a great show was put on and friendly competition was fierce.
Ultimately, Godstone won by just 67 points to 61 and Hurst Green were graceful in their defeat. They put on a fabulous buffet of food for everyone present and were incredibly generous in their hospitality. The array of daffodils, tulips, spring flower arrangements, displays of primulas, and planted baskets were something that everyone, from both clubs, could be very proud!
