Our first Jolly Jaunt for 2015 was to Ulting Wick in Essex – near Maldon for the uninitiated – on what turned out to be a fine, sunny St. George’s Day. With around 6000 tulips planted it was a sight to behold, with ponds and lawns, meadow and new tree plantation it was lovely – so much so that we shall probably revisit next year in September! The house was built over centuries and the selection of listed black barns were a wonderful backdrop to the plantings. Of course, the obligatory tea/coffee and cake were served on arrival and before we left a bowl of hearty homemade soup was served. Needless to say we bought up the stock of plants!!
