It’s hard to believe, but the Godstone Gardeners Club is 40 years old this year! Established in 1974, the club has been running ever since encouraging members to enjoy gardening and maybe learn a little along the way. During the last 40 years we’ve had almost 400 speakers at the club, we’ve popped off on over 100 trips to see gardens all over the country and we’ve had over 2,500 entries in our competitions.
We’re going to celebrate our 40th birthday with a party. Planning is now well under way for the party which will take place on the 10th September between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. The party is open to all members and their partners and we’re hoping for a good turnout! The Gardeners’ Club will provide the drinks, but we’re asking members to bring along some nibbles on the night. The party will be held in one of our members’ garden so if you don’t want to stand all evening, you’ll need to bring along a chair to sit on. More details will follow at the August club meeting and, at that time, we’ll also be asking members to confirm whether or not they are going to come along. It should be a good evening, so we hope to see as many members as we can.
Sounds like a good idea to me! I’m going to go along and celebrate and drink some wine!
You won’t be the only one raising a glass, or two, to the Gardening Club! It is one of the most vibrant clubs/organisations in the village and I am proud to have been a member for 37 years – where did they go?! Long live the Gardeners and I am sorry I won’t be around when we celebrate our 80th, because we surely will!
