A fantastic attendance for our March meeting to hear Lesley Chamberlain who spoke on “Great Plants for Problem Places”. She split her talk into plants for sand, clay, shade and sun and gave suggestions for each problem place. We all gained ideas and some plants were suggested that perhaps we would never have thought of. Her opening quotation was, “They who plant a garden, plant happiness” – how true is that?
Next month we have Derek Dexter speaking on ‘Growing and Showing Fuchsias my way’. Same place – White Hart Barn – April 1st, 7.30p.m. for 8.00p.m.

Members should also remember that on 15th April we have our annual Spring Challenge against our friends from Hurst Green Gardening Club. Schedules have been distributed, (and are on this website here!), but we will bring a few more along next month just in case anyone has lost theirs. We are hosting the challenge this year and entries can be made from 7.30p.m.
Shortly after our meeting, three of us were lucky enough to obtain tickets to attend a lecture by Chris Beardshaw – we got in because others cancelled – silly them!
He was an absolutely brilliant speaker and gave us a Degree Course on the English Garden, all in the space of two hours! No notes, slides that meant something, not the usual disparate collection, and lots of humour thrown in too. Can’t remember how many Gold Medals, Best In Show or Viewers Choice awards he has won at Chelsea but he is back there again this year so keep an eye open for his design.
